When it comes to SYG here is all you need to know:

Bob Lohman, 64, and his wife, Charlene, 57, were watching television one evening when a brick was thrown through the glass doors in their living room. The perpetrator, 20-year-old William R. Carlton, then entered the Lohman residence, grabbed Charlene and began savagely beating her. When Lohman was unable to pull Carlton away from his wife, he retrieved a .38 cal. revolver and shot him once before calling police. Carlton was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Mrs. Lohman sustained significant bumps and bruises, but was otherwise uninjured. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Dardenne Prairie, MO, 3/30/12)

A man came to the door of Herschel Matheny, 82, and Jacqueline Hicks, 75, one morning and asked to use their telephone. When the man was given a phone to use, he reportedly stabbed Matheny in the chest and demanded money from Hicks. While giving the man the impression she was leaving the room to get money, Hicks retrieved a firearm instead and forced the man to leave. Matheny was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover. The suspect is at large. (The Southern Illinoisan, Herod, IL, 4/24/12)

Police were called after a man shot a pit bull that had attacked his 11-year-old son. The dog belonged to a neighbor and had broken free of its leash before it bit the boy. The boy’s father retrieved a handgun and fired one shot when the dog lunged toward him. The wounded dog ran off, but was later located and taken to be euthanized. The boy was treated for his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. (The Press-Enterprise, Riverside County, CA, 4/8/12)

Just after 2 p.m. one afternoon, a woman was home alone when she heard a knock at her door. The two men at the door began inquiring about a friend of hers. Suddenly she was forced back into the house at gunpoint and into a closet. That closet, however, was where the woman kept a gun of her own. She fired at the intruders causing them to flee. One of the intruders suffered a gunshot wound and collapsed on the sidewalk outside. He was later pronounced dead. The woman was uninjured. (KCTV5 News, Kansas City, MO, 4/9/12)

Rev. Henry Guyton, 71, a Baptist church pastor, called 911 one afternoon when a man at the church began acting as if he was having a heart attack. The man, 38-year-old Jesse Gates, left the church after being examined by EMS. Gates returned to the church later that day carrying a shotgun. The reverend’s grandson, Aaron Guyton, 26, spotted the shotgun and locked the doors. Gates, however, kicked open a side door of the sanctuary and pointed the gun at the pastor and congregation. As a concealed carry permit holder, Aaron acted quickly to detain Gates at gunpoint until police arrived. Everyone was reportedly unharmed. (goupstate.com, Boiling Springs, SC, 3/25/12)

Colleen McCarey, 48, was shopping at Getzow Jewelers one afternoon. Feigning interest in buying a charm, she asked the employee if she could see an expensive crucifix. When the employee carefully handed the charm to her to examine, McCarey gave the worker a handwritten note telling him no one would be hurt if he handed over all the store’s engagement rings. The employee signaled to his father, who was in the back room of the store, and he quickly emerged with a gun. He was then able to detain McCarey until police arrived. (The Intelligencer, Doylestown, PA, 4/22/12)

And the best one!

Leonard Nathaniel was sleeping when a neighbor called and alerted him to possible burglars outside his apartment. Nathaniel then went downstairs and found two intruders going through his kitchen drawers and cabinets. Although one intruder had a gun pointed at him, Nathaniel fled upstairs where he retrieved his own firearm. He fired at the men, wounding one and causing the other to flee. Rashaun Dawson, 18, was taken to a hospital and treated for his wounds. He was then charged with burglary and possession of a stolen firearm. Andrew Smalls, 19, was later arrested and charged with burglary as well. (The Post and Courier, Charleston, SC, 4/7/12)

Now how many white people do you know named Rashaun?

It would be way more interesting to read stories of kids finding their parents guns and shooting each other or perhaps stories about random idiots fucking around with guns and shooting themselves or friends. Bet there would be a lot more of those.

I would never want to shoot someone. Only to defend myself or others when no other option is available. For the old and infirm, a gun is a good option for self defense since they cannot overpower assailants.

There is a million ways to defend yourself. If you choose to live by the sword, you have chosen to live in a dangerous world.

When one is forced to use lethal force it is a tragedy. It's not something for right wingers to celebrate or romanticize about.

"I would never want to shoot someone."

Nobody does.

"Only to defend myself or others when no other option is available."

I'm sure George Zimmerman feels the same way.

"For the old and infirm, a gun is a good option for self defense since they cannot overpower assailants."

I could think of a few people who could over power you. I doubt you could defend yourself against more than one unarmed assailant. Few people can.

"There is a million ways to defend yourself." But only one truly effective way that has been proven to equalize every man, woman and child.

"If you choose to live by the sword, you have chosen to live in a dangerous world."

We already live in a dangerous world. And it's statements like this which make me believe you are an emotional woman.

"It's not something for right wingers to celebrate or romanticize about."

They don't. You're implication that they do is simply another irrational emotion-based statement

"I could think of a few people who could over power you. I doubt you could defend yourself against more than one unarmed assailant. Few people can."

Hmmm. So telling. And although I don't see what that has to do with the old and infirm, you are probably right.

Unless, of course I had a pair of Uzis. Hell, who even needs that? You can make flash bangs and smoke bombs from household chemicals and left over fireworks, you could bail out of the scene in the confusion. Hand tazers can put some folks down pretty good too.

Shit maybe I'd just call 911 on the cell and get the po in on the action.

Guns are just one form of protection...imagination is a powerful weapon.

" And although I don't see what that has to do with the old and infirm, you are probably right."

You're denser than a wheel of Parmesan. Point being that it's not just the old and infirm who benefit from the ability to own, carry and use firearms for self defense and then be protected under the law when they do

"Unless, of course I had a pair of Uzis" If that is what you feel you need to protect yourself, then it is no business of mine or anyone else.

"You can make flash bangs and smoke bombs from household chemicals and left over fireworks, you could bail out of the scene in the confusion."

Ha! Hold on there Mr.Burglar, wait while I prep my (illegal btw) homemade flash bang and disorient you and me for about 30 seconds. Please don't kill me when you come to. What idiot would use a flashbang in a defensive role? Probably the same idiot who thinks their imagination is a weapon.

"Hand tazers can put some folks down pretty good too." Sure, as long as there is only one assailant, they don't disarm you and take it from you and you're able to get away as soon as you let up off the tazer. The weak point with hand tazers is you have to get within striking distance, police tazers only give you one shot so if you miss or the probes don't take, then you're fucked.

That's the beauty of a gun. You can deploy it while there is still distance between you and your assailant, you can have more than one shot. And in many cases the mere presence is enough to deter criminals from attacking you.

"Shit maybe I'd just call 911 on the cell and get the po in on the action."

Yes, do that too as time and your situation permits, not every situation will afford you this luxury.

"Guns are just one form of protection."

They are the best form or protection when a situation is unavoidable.

["For the old and infirm, a gun is a good option for self defense since they cannot overpower assailants."

I could think of a few people who could over power you. I doubt you could defend yourself against more than one unarmed assailant. Few people can.]

First you copied the quote, then you preceded to respond by saying you know people that could overpower the author of the original post.

The problem is your knowledge of tough guys does nothing to counter the point that guns are a good option for the old an infirm.

Thank you and enjoy your glue sniffing.

I think you're the one sniffing glue, there, cletus. Are you an adult? How old are you? Or rather how young are you, youngster? I wasn't trying to counter that point. The old and infirm should be able to use firearms, so should any other law abiding citizen.

Were you drinking your grandma's bong water or something?

^ I think you need to go back and re-read what is being said. Read it a couple of times until it penetrates that thick, neanderthal skull of yours.

You posted: "For the old and infirm, a gun is a good option for self defense"

Implying that only the old and infirm should be allowed to use guns for self defense. I merely pointed out that guns aren't just for the old and infirm.

If you're to stupid understand this then maybe that's why you lost the argument.

Yeah, well it kind looks bad when you shoot on of them in the back as they are running away, and then try to dispose of evidence.
